Abstract(s)
Apesar da relação entre o Irão e a Venezuela datar imensas décadas, foi a partir de 2005 que se começou a formar o Eixo Teerão-Caracas, uma aliança entre dois Estados marginalizados pela Comunidade Internacional e que, à priori, teria na sua base o desejo de escapar às sanções impostas de que são alvos. Contudo, o sentimento anti-imperialista revelou-se muito mais forte e capaz de sustentar este Eixo até à atualidade.
Caracas facilita a entrada do Irão na América Latina, tornando-se num dos elementos mais importantes aquando da análise a esta Estratégia do Irão que alberga quatro vetores de forma oficial: i) Cultural; ii) Diplomático; iii) Económico; e v) Militar. Assim, consideramos imperativo analisar a dita Estratégia tendo sempre presente o importante papel que a Venezuela possui, bem como as alterações que essa Estratégia foi sofrendo ao longo do tempo por diversos fatores, nomeadamente os diferentes Presidentes que ascenderam ao poder em ambos os países e a conjuntura internacional.
Para além destes quatro vetores oficiais, acrescentamos um outro: o subversivo. Neste sentido, pegamos no papel do Hezbollah, um instrumento estratégico de Teerão e que tem merecido o apoio secreto do regime de Caracas.
Vamos então ajudar a compreender o papel da Venezuela em toda a Estratégia do Irão para a América Latina e Caraíbas num espaço temporal de 17 anos (2005-2022).
Although the relationship between Iran and Venezuela dates back many decades, it was in 2005 that the Tehran-Caracas Axis began to form, an alliance between two states marginalised by the international community that, a priori, was based on the desire to escape the sanctions imposed on them. However, the anti-imperialist sentiment proved to be much stronger and capable of sustaining this Axis to the present day. Caracas facilitates Iran's entry into Latin America, making it one of the most important elements when analysing this Iran Strategy which officially houses four vectors: i) Cultural; ii) Diplomatic; iii) Economic; and v) Military. Thus, we find it imperative to analyse the said Strategy always bearing in mind the important role that Venezuela has, as well as the changes that this Strategy has undergone over time due to various factors, namely the different Presidents who have come to power in both countries and the international conjuncture. In addition to these four official vectors, we have added another one: the subversive. In this sense, we take the role of Hezbollah, a strategic instrument of Tehran and which has merited the secret support of the regime in Caracas. Let us then help to understand Venezuela's role in the entire Iran Strategy for Latin America and the Caribbean over a time span of 17 years (2005-2022).
