This report describes the activities of supervised teaching practice, carried out at Escola Secundária de Casquilhos, in the academic years of 2022/2023 and 2023/24, as part of the Master's degree in Visual Arts in Education at the Institute of Education of the University of Lisbon, aimed at obtaining professionalization in teaching Visual Arts, in the third cycle of basic school and secondary education. The teaching practice consisted of the implementation of one didactic unit called “Anima: animated literature”, in the optional subject of the 12th grade, Oficína de Artes, with a total of 14 teaching sessions. The didactic unit was designed considering project-based methodology and the framework of the essential learnings of the discipline. Its objective was to establish a connection between literature, illustration, and animation through various exercises proposed to the students, culminating in the creation of a short stop-motion video and presentation of a portfolio of the work done. The theoretical assumptions of this curricular unit were inspired by Peter Mendelsun's work 'What We See When We Read,' as well as by the pedagogical principles of John Dewey, which refer us to learning through experimentation. In this sense, the report first presents the theoretical framework on teaching of visual arts in Portugal, and the philosophical-pedagogical framework of John Dewey's education theories. Following a second part, is dedicated to characterizing the school context in which the internship was carried out, as well as the detailed report of the teaching and non-teaching activities, culminating in the implementation of the curriculum unit, evaluation, and analysis of results.
