Abstract(s)
Utopian architecture, in its complexity of fields and thematic variations, can be generically understood as a set of ‘placeless’ systems, designed in an abstract, sometimes theoretical matrix, using the desire for progress and idealization. It is through the materialization of these ideas and objectives in the different territories of the planet Earth that the concept of ‘Topical Experimentalism’ arises, dedicated to projects whose concept is applied and adapted to places with their own cultural and social context. Therefore, it is sought to support the present document on a theoretical component, accompanied by a practical investigation and development of a new modular and multifunctional system that responds to the common principles studied. In a second moment, a local issue is selected – the territory of Beato, in ‘Eastern’ Lisbon – where the system is applied, deepened, and consequently ‘experimented’.
