Touched by curiosity and need, Man has (re)designed the world and society at his self-image. In this progress, he (re)defined the concept of architecture while organizing a new way of living and relating to space, building new definitions. Currently, and as a result of evolution as a society that works with space at its image, and based on the impact that Man has on the environment, for example with the increase in the carbon footprint and natural disasters resulting from a consumerist lifestyle, architecture also lives in cause and effect with the environment. Therefore, it becomes necessary to (re)think the ways of doing architecture in contemporary times. The present dissertation intends to face the paradigm of sustainability in architecture through a review of architectural currents. Under a path divided into acts, we move between Past, Present and Future, where we find vernacular architecture and Critical Regionalism in confrontation with modern architecture. Highlighting the community universe as a bridge to sustainability. In the pages of this dissertation, we find from vernacular architecture to communities, ideologies, practices and desiring ways of life that can (re)capacitate and (re)think the architecture of the future. It is a historical and ideological exploration complemented by an illustrative collection.
