Sequela de um movimento universal de progresso e modernização, que se desenvolveu ao longo do século XX, hoje, o Vale de Alcântara, encara um problema infraestrutural que destrói progressivamente o seu sistema natural e consequentemente apaga as vivências que outrora existiram, em prol da edificação de vias de acesso automóvel.
Apoiada por premissas históricas e ambientais, a ideia de projeto assenta na definição de uma nova representação para o Vale de Alcântara, separada dos traços infraestruturais, com o intuito de relembrar e renovar a ligação entre o lugar e o habitante, através da reconquista das valências naturais do Vale de Alcântara.
Pretende-se restaurar as condições naturais deste Vale, através da substituição e otimização das vias existentes, da reintegração da ribeira à superfície, da criação de campos agrícolas geradores de recursos nas áreas férteis do vale à disposição da cidade de Lisboa, da criação de espaços de lazer e da conexão à cidade a partir de um corredor verde.
Propõe-se também edificar e colmatar as diferentes áreas fragmentadas, de modo a articular este novo Vale de Alcântara com a restante cidade já consolidada, criando zonas habitacionais, diversificadas e inclusivas que consolidam uma nova frente edificada e caracterizante do Vale.
As a consequence of a global movement toward progress and modernization that developed over the course of the twentieth century, the Vale of Alcântara is actually dealing with an infrastructure concern that has been negatively affecting its natural system and forcing the eviction of formerly existing residences in order to build access roads for automobiles. Assisted by environmental and historical considerations, the project's idea centers on the definition of a new representation for the Vale of Alcântara, detached from the infrastructure, with the goal of recalling and renewing the correlation between the location and its inhabitants through the recovery of the Vale of Alcântara's natural treasures. The goal is to return the natural conditions from Vale by replacing and improving the existing routes, reintegrating the ribeira with the surface, creating agricultural fields that provide resources for the city of Lisbon, creating recreational areas, and connecting the city via a green corridor. The goal is to build up and join the various fragmented areas in order to connect this new Vale of Alcântara to the rest of the city, which has already been built up. This would entail creating livable, diverse, and inclusive areas that would form a new, distinctive front which would define the Vale.
