The archaeological excavations that have taken place in the Alcáçova de Santarém for some years now have recovered a great number of islamic finds. The pottery from this period studied in rhe present article comes from a restricted area in the Alcáçova, where a series of pits were dug in the local bed rock. These objects weren't found in a context of primary deposition since they come from pits filled with domestic rubbish. This pottery seems ro be culturally and chronologically homogeneous. From the archaeological data observed we can infer that the filling out of the pits was made in quite a short period of time and was sinchronic. The assemblage is morphologically quite diverse and is mainly formed by common ware pottery. The pottery finds were made for the table service, storage and transportation, cooking, and several other uses. Its chronology points to the first half of the 12ch century.
