The contribution of Interaction Design to sustainable digital consumption. Bettery: a tool for acquiring environmental awareness seeks to analyze how interaction design decisions during the design of digital products can determine the energy consumption derived from their use and contribute to the adoption of environmentally conscious online behaviors by users. With the development of this research, it is also proposed to reveal how can interaction design according to the availability of energy resources (Pargmann & Raghavan, 2015) contribute to an adequacy of the digital carbon footprint to the achievement of the objectives determined by the users, without compromising its user experience and user agency. To this end, sustainable interaction design principles (SID) advocated by Tom Jarret (2021) and current considerations and metrics on digital consumption are systematized. It also explores the influence of persuasive technologies on addictive user experiences that generate an excessive ecological footprint. In order to contribute to its integration into the basic principles of digital citizenship, practical recommendations on green computing are made available (Gambier et al., 2020) to reduce the digital carbon footprint of ordinary users. In this perspective, the responsibility of the interaction designer in the design of products with reduced energy consumption is also addressed, since the decisions made during the stages of development of digital products and services are decisive for the environmental impact resulting from the use and expansion of the digital infrastructure(Preist et al., 2016). The practical component of this investigation offers an interactive experience of reduced energy consumption and offers suggestions for online activities, based on objectives imposed by users and adapted to the energy availability calculated in real time. For this purpose, it is intended to simulate a browser extension that keeps the user informed about the ecological footprint caused by their digital routine and that promotes awareness of the environmental impact associated with the use of the internetpt_PT
