Alcohol consumption has been an integral part of human history for as long as records exist (Goel, S., Sharma, A., & Garg, A., 2018). Currently, harmful alcohol consumption is ranked as the 7th risk factor for death and disability worldwide and the 3rd risk factor in Europe (Barbería-Latasa, M., Gea, A., & Martínez-González, M. A., 2022). Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death worldwide, having a strong impact on hope and quality of life. If, on the one hand, the various epidemiological studies carried out over time demonstrate that moderate alcohol consumption is associated with effects that show health benefits, namely the reduction in the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, harmful alcohol consumption and Binge drinking is one of the main causes of mortality worldwide, something that is also seen in the association between alcohol consumption and cardiovascular diseases (Goel, S., Sharma, A., & Garg, A., 2018). With this thesis, I seek to explore how alcohol consumption can affect cardiovascular health. Initially, I seek to explain the toxic mechanisms of alcohol, then addressing the direct and indirect impact of its consumption. Throughout this work I will also try to compare the benefits of alcohol consumption with the harms of alcohol consumption.
