Devido à crescente utilização das redes sociais virtuais, nomeadamente do Facebook e
do Instagram, parece certo que estas estão a exercer um papel significativo nos relacionamentos
amorosos. Sabendo que as relações podem sofrer alterações negativas com a utilização das
redes sociais, será que o tipo de utilização poderá predizer o bem-estar das relações e da
infidelidade?
Através de uma amostra de 320 indivíduos verificou-se que quando existem problemas
nas relações os indivíduos tendem a aumentar a utilização das redes sociais para visionar
informação sobre potenciais relações alternativas. Este tipo de uso das redes sociais está
associado a uma menor qualidade das relações, e à infidelidade. Podendo funcionar como
mediador entre as variáveis do modelo do investimento e a infidelidade, ou mesmo ser já
considerado o início da mesma.
Due to the increasing use of virtual social networks like Facebook and Instagram it seems certain that they are playing a significant role in relationships. Knowing that relationships can suffer negative changes with the use of social networks, can the type of use predict the wellbeing of relationships and infidelity? Through a sample of 320 individuals, it was found that when there are problems in relationships, individuals tend to increase the use of social networks to search information about potential alternative relationships. This type of use of social networks is associated with a lower quality of relationships, and with infidelity. It can act as a mediator between the variables of the investment model and infidelity, or even be considered the beginning of it.
