Abstract(s)
The Portugal economic integration on the European Community requires a great effort for the Portuguese national . structures. The absent of competitiveness and the lack of high technological production sectors delays a real social development. The entrance, at 1986, on the EC represented a really contest for the Portuguese economic agents. This paper tries to identify the dimension and extension of the structural changes on the productive Portuguese system. It relies on five chapters, each of them discussing the main subjects that implies with the industrial economic evolution: foreign trade, foreign direct investment, intemational advantages and, specially the determinants of the Portuguese international integration: how can Portugal become a interesting competitor among the European partners. This process is necessarily long, but for a country that during severa!decades lived in autarchy, the acceleration of foreign openness represents the very first step to oblige the industrial structures to reply as so as they want to survive in a world characterised by a greatest concurrence and where the innovation capacity and production flexibility are the means to win. The adoption of adequate human resources, science and technology, regional poles policies can help to modify the entrepreneur conception about of how to run an enterprise.
