Assistência, educação e trabalho no Estado Novo: o caso da Obra Social da Fragata D. Fernando II e Glória

Desde finais da década de 40 até meados da década de 70 do século passado, decorreu (inicialmente a bordo de uma velha fragata da Carreira da India e posteriormente em instalações em terra) a Obra Social da Fragata D. Fernando II e Glória.
Em pleno Estado Novo, a Obra parece ter seguido um percurso que acompanhou o próprio sistema político vigente. Recorrendo a um sistema assistencial, educacional e de integração profissional próprios do período, assistiu-se ao crescimento, estagnação e declínio que seguiu o perfil do regime.
Tendo como objetivos principais, a recolha, educação e instrução de rapazes sem família ou sem recursos, a instituição pode, contudo, ter sido muito mais do que estes princípios fundadores previam. Justifica-se, assim, uma análise mais detalhada sobre a sua constituição, evolução e encerramento.
Since the end of the 1940`s towards the mid 70`s of the past century, it was held (initially on board of an old frigate of Carreira da India (Passage to India) and later in facilities ashore) the Social Work of the Frigate D. Fernando II e Glória (King Ferdinand II and Glory) . During Estado Novo (New State regime), the Work seems to have followed a course that accompanied the very political system of the time. Turning to an aid, educational and professional integration system typical of the time, there was an increase, stagnation and decline that followed the regime´s profile. Having as main goals the sheltering, education and instruction of boys who had no family or resources, the institution may, however, have been much more than what these founding principles had foreseen. It is, thus, justified a more thorough analysis about its establishment, evolution and closure.
