Economia circular no caso da economia portuguesa : uma aplicação à Corticeira Amorim

O modelo de Economia Circular é um dos recentes temas em debate nos organismos nacionais e internacionais. O aquecimento global, a poluição ambiental, o aumento populacional e a expansão do consumo são alguns dos problemas da atualidade que alertam os governos mundiais para o desenvolvimento de modelos económicos sustentáveis.
O presente Trabalho Final de Mestrado (TFM) centra-se num estudo de caso focado no modelo da Economia Circular (EC) na Corticeira Amorim, onde se pretende verificar se a empresa aplica o modelo de EC ao longo do seu ciclo produtivo.
A dissertação incide sobre a revisão da literatura especializada no tema, na evolução histórica do modelo, nas escolas de pensamento que sustentam a EC e nas mudanças que a EC trouxe para os modelos de negócios.
Em termos metodológicos, realizou-se um estudo de caso descritivo, que se focou na pesquisa qualitativa e interpretativa, recorrendo à análise documental, à análise de três entrevistas e à observação direta decorrente da visita à empresa.
Os resultados indicam que a Corticeira Amorim aplica os princípios da EC em todo o seu ciclo produtivo e, que começou por o fazer desde 1963, altura em que a Corticeira começou a garantir o aproveitamento integral da matéria-prima e de todos os seus derivados.
Conclui-se também que a utilização de uma política sustentável e o cumprimento dos princípios da Economia Circular são benéficos para os resultados económicos da empresa, tendo inclusive registado, em 2016, o melhor ano de sempre ao nível das vendas consolidadas.
The Circular Economy model is one of the most recent topics under debate in the national and international organizations. Global warming, environmental pollution, population growth, and the increase in consumption are some of the current problems that warn governments all over the world to develop sustainable economic models. The present Final Master's Work focuses on a case study of the Circular Economy model in Corticeira Amorim, where the objective is to verify if the company applies the model of Circular Economy throughout its productive cycle. The dissertation focuses on the literature review of the theme, on the historical evolution of the model, on the schools of thought that underpin the Circular Economy, on the changes that this model has brought to business models. Methodologically, a descriptive case study was carried out, focusing on qualitative and interpretative research, using documentary analysis, along with an analysis of two interviews and the direct observation arranged from a visit to the company. The results indicate that Corticeira Amorim applies the principles of Circular Economy throughout its production cycle and began to do so since 1963, when Corticeira began to guarantee the integral use of the raw material and all its derivatives. With this case study, it could be concluded that the use of a sustainable policy and the fulfilment of the principles of circular economy are valuable for the economic results of company, which registered, in 2016, the best year in terms of sales.
