Resumo(s)

The use of veterinary drugs in livestock has become an integral part of the livestock industry for the production of meat and meat products. After administering to the animal, a drug may be metabolized in whole or in part, before being eliminated in the urine and / or feces. The application of manure and / or slurry, resulting from the farms as fertilizer on agricultural land is a common practice. So is there a growing international concern about the potential risk of introduction of drug residues in the ecosystem. In this work became the prediction of risk of environmental exposure to residues of veterinary drugs present in the effluent from an intensive pig farm. The methodology contemplated PECsoil calculations following standard procedures and using inputs from real production practices. The worst case scenario, where there is no metabolism of drugs by animals, was also considered. The PECsoil estimations were performed for active substances used in the various production phases. PECsoil calculated values exceed the limit value of 100μg/kg for sulfadimethoxine, trimethoprim, ampicillin, oxytocin, iron, amoxicillin, tilmicosin, zinc oxide, flubendazole, tiamulin and doxycycline. This case study aims to contribute to the awareness of environmental issues associated with potential risks arising from the use of veterinary drugs in intensive pig farm.
