La delimitación de la frontera luso-gallega
de la Provincia de Entre Duero y Miño es anterior
a la fundación de Portugal, aunque su
confirmación y configuración actuales solo se
establecieran con la firma del Tratado de Límites
de 1864. En un primero momento, esta
frontera política no coincidía ni con la frontera
lingüística ni, tampoco, con la frontera cultural,
por lo que la Corona y el Poder Central
emprendieron el esfuerzo de demarcar militarmente
la Raya para delimitar su soberanía.
En este texto se analizará la aportación de diversas representaciones gráficas de este sector
de la frontera –mapas, vistas, planos y dibujos–
a la fijación de una línea de separación
política entre los dos países.
The delimitation of the Portuguese-Galician border in the province of Entre Douro and Minho dates to before the foundation of Portugal, but its current configuration was only established by the Treaty of Limits of 1864. Originally, this political frontier was based on neither linguistic nor cultural realities, and so both the Crown and the Central Power resorted to military means for delineating the border and demarcating its sovereignty. In this paper, we will analyse the role played by different graphical representations—maps, views, plans and drawings—of this section of the border in establishing the line of political separation between the two countries.
