C. Na segunda metade do século
No contexto histórico destes cem anos,
A primeira
The main subject of this study is a group of photographies of Achilles reinventions in Greek figured-vases between VI-V Centuries B.C. In the second half of the VI century Athens becames free of Corinthian influence and concentrates on the reinvention of myths focusing on the human shape; on the V century the victory against the Persians represented an act of heroism, while the upcoming of tragedy affirmed the maturation of thought consolidated as a singular literary genre. Within the context of this centenary we analyse pictorial recriations of Achilles building upon a wide research culminating on a criterious selection of digital photographies which we comment, articulating text and image. From a pluridisciplinary perspective with a main focus on some concepts from within the discipline of theater iconography, namely the concepts of “absorption-theatricallity” and “Instant-pregnant”, we problematize the images of Achilles as autonomous objects with a discoursive capacity which reflects the interdependency of ideas and lexic. We confront the reinventions of Achilles with contemporay and later written sources, distinguishing ekphrasis as verbalization of contents raised by Achilles body attitudes. The first part of the study plans the second part. It falls upon aspects of Achilles stories and is followed by a brief hermeneutical account of the rapsode’s performance as an ephemeral act of theater and imagination, where image is central. The second part of this study is devoted to the commentary of Achilles pictorial recriations organized in sets based upon paideia, hunting and Eros, all linked together by manifestations of Dionysus.
