gravidez, o parto e o pós-parto. Nas três categorias, as participantes identificaram o
impacto do contexto pandémico.
The transition to motherhood is a period of significant changes on physical, psychological, social and family levels, but it is also affected by the context in which it is lived in. In 2019, in China, the SARS-CoV-2 virus emerged, spreading throughout the world and originating the COVID-19 pandemic, prompting governments to take several steps such as mandatory confinements and social isolation. Thus, parents who experienced the transition to parenthood in 2020 did so in a particular and unprecedented context of adversity. This paper aims to understand the experiences lived in during the transition to motherhood and how this pandemic context impacted in them. The instrument used was a script of semi-structured interviews conducted with 15 Portuguese adult women, first-time mothers. The data were subjected to a thematic analysis, thus allowing the identification of three main categories: pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. In the three categories, the participants identified the impact from the pandemic. This impact was predominantly negative, with the distance from family and friends and the absence of partners at crucial moments, but also positive, such as a more relaxed pregnancy and greater protection for mother and baby. The discussion of the results, as well as their implications on intervention and research, were carried out in the light of a systemic perspective.
