Elementos provenientes da história natural, como a observação, a
categonzação e a classificação dos seres dos três reinos, animal, vegetal e
mineral, tiveram uma influência marcante no ensino liceal português das
ciências biológicas e geológicas, durante grande parte do século XX. Os
materiais e equipamentos contribuiram para a configuração de uma identidade
própria sediada no espaço dos laboratórios. Estes espaços foram
condicionantes de práticas lectivas que foram sendo normalizadas, legitimadas
e homologadas pelo discurso legislativo, o qual foi estabelecendo um lugar
próprio para estas áreas científicas, no quadro geral deste tipo de ensino.
During a significant part of the 20th century, the teaching of biological and geological sciences in the Portuguese High School was strongly influenced by Natural History, namely by observation, categorization and classification in the three Linnaean kingdoms - Animalia, Vegetabilia and Mineralia. The materials and instruments used for such aims have shaped the identity of school labs thereby conditioning the teaching practices in these domains. Along the years, these practices have been normalised, legitimised and ratified by the legislative discourse. In this vein, a distinct place for Biology and Geology as been established in the context of high school teaching in Portugal.
