Resumo(s)

Skin cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers in the world. Chapter 1 introduces the Eyelid and Conjunctiva Epithelial Tumours: A Review of Risk Factors and Primary Prevention Options. Risk factors associated with the development of eyelid and conjunctiva epithelial tumours were identified. Data of two studies were presented in Chapter 2, namely, Incidence of malignant eyelid skin tumours in Centro Hospitalar de Setúbal, Portugal: a 6-year-period review (2015-2021). In addition, are we capable of contributing to the reduction of eyelid basal cell carcinoma? Building a healthcare team in Portugal. Given the complexity of eyelid tumours, in Chapter 3, preliminary formulations with octyl salicylate (OS) are proposed for preventive use of the appearance of eyelid tumours caused by UVB radiation. In this preliminary phase, formulations that did not suit the ideal organoleptic characteristics for the continuation of the work were discarded. In order to optimize the physical stability and homogeneous appearance, without changing the composition percentage of the prepared preliminary formulations, in Chapter 4 a new preparation methodology was applied, then such formulations were optimized and characterized. Regarding the safety and toxicity analysis of the selected formulation (B5), Chapter 5 describes the procedures for the safety analysis in ophthalmology of the OS component present in the formulation. The EpiOcularTM method has shown lack of toxicity and absence of ocular irritation. In Chapter 6, Pharmacist-physician Collaboration on Prevention and Treatment of Eyelid Basal Cell Carcinoma, in order to explore the relevance in the exchange of communication of the professional practice of pharmacists and physicians to impact the prevention and treatment of Basal cell carcinoma, the most common skin cancer in the world, which constitutes 85-95% of malignant tumours particularly located in the epithelial eyelids. All the findings described in this work allowed to conclude (Chapter 7) that the preliminary formulation of the sunscreen based on of OS in particular using methyl--cyclodextrin presents safety to use in humans and that the innovative model collaborative between pharmacist-physician in Ophthalmology is effective in the development of health.
