A Capeia Arraiana é uma manifestação tauromáquica de cariz popular de algumas
freguesias do concelho do Sabugal. É única no mundo, sendo caracterizada pelo uso de um
objeto de madeira – forcão – com o qual um grupo de trinta homens espera as investidas
dos toiros. As suas origens não são completamente conhecidas, mas sabe-se que existe
pelo menos desde o séc. XIX. Com uma aceitação crescente na região, foi recentemente
classificada como Património Cultural Imaterial. Tem lugar maioritariamente no mês de
agosto, aumentando a população em cerca de 10 vezes neste mês, nas aldeias onde se
realiza. Atendendo à crescente desertificação e ao envelhecimento da população, justificase
conhecer os impactos desta manifestação a diferentes níveis. Este trabalho pretendeu
caracterizar os vários agentes económicos a montante e a jusante da Capeia Arraiana. Para
tal, procedeu-se ao levantamento de dados relativos ao período 2009-2013 e à
implementação de inquéritos aos vários agentes identificados. O presente trabalho confirma
que, na região em estudo, a Capeia Arraiana tem um impacto socioeconómico relevante.
Para a população residente, a Capeia Arraiana parece caracterizar-se essencialmente como
um inquestionável fator identitário e um importante legado cultural, para além de gerar
diversos benefícios na região.
ABSTRACT - SOCIO-ECONOMICAL IMPACT OF CAPEIA ARRAIANA - The Capeia Arraiana is a popular tauromachy manifestation of some parishes of the region of Sabugal. It is unique in the world and it is characterized by the use of a wooden pitchfork – forcão – with which a group of thirty men waits for the charges of the bulls. Its origins are not completely understood, but it is known that the Capeia Arraiana exists since the 19th century. With a growing acceptance in the region, it was recently classified as Intangible Cultural Heritage. It takes place mostly in August, and the population multiplies tenfold during this period. Considering the growing depopulation and the ageing of the inhabitants, this work aims to characterize the various upstream and downstream players of this manifestation. For that, data from the period between 2009 and 2013 were collected and questionnaires were implemented to samples of the different players. Multivariate analysis, namely factor analysis, and test hypotheses were undertaken. The relevant socio-economic impact of this event can be confirmed over this work. For the resident population, Capeia Arraiana is characterized as an unquestionable identity factor and a cultural legacy, recognizing several benefits to the region.
