In these days and age, the school once again occupies a central place in the new citizenship. This centrality gives society a new vision of the school and implicitly implies new responsibilities. For this reason we look for a school with quality. Above all, and for an education of quality, the school must promote a climate conducive to learning in which exist clear goals and teachers work as a team in the construction of a curriculum which is sufficiently flexible and which allows the students to acquire knowledge and basic competence. In this context of a quality school we can highlight the continuing work of analysis and reflection of the teachers who base their methodology in the organization of learning in the 1st Cycle of the pedagogical model of the Modern School Movement Portuguese. The methodology of project work presents itself as a strategy for the construction of a senior citizen who needs to reinvent democracy. Working together, the student manages to identify in him or herself and in his or her colleagues the strong and weak points of learning. The project work methodology can function as a condition to learn more and better and not as an instrument of selection and exclusion. A strategy which allows not only respecting the different work rhythms of each student, but which also promotes a spirit of cooperation and mutual assistance between the members of the group and a conscious collective knowledge. This study follows a line of qualitative investigation of an interpretive nature. Semi directive interviews were carried out with participative observations and documental analysis of the personal documents of two educational professionals with the intention of establishing their practice within the project area and also to understand up to which point it is or not difficult to make concrete projects with pupils so young. Preliminary data points to an atmosphere propitious to the development of social competence, stimulating the students towards an active and democratic citizenship based on collaborative work.
