The city remains one of the most emblematic human creations, universally regarded as a cultural paradigm. After the crisis caused by the modern movement, many authors sought to understand the urban object, and especially the comprehension of its form genesis. However, the city as a cumulative result of a process in which numerous competing actions, and accidents happen over time, has a highly complex nature, that we might even say unfathomable. However, itâs in this evolutionary, process intrinsic to the urban object, that the key to its understanding lies. Analyzing the urban form as the result of a continuous act of building on pre-existing elements, to which new elements are imposed or adapted, itâs hypothetically possible through the hermeneutic reading of the urban fabric to recover the different moments of its evolution and thus understand the genesis of its form. Given the unsustainability of indefinite urban expansion, the reuse of the existing city in our time, assuming new buildings from scratch or rehabilitating old buildings, with greater or lesser modifications, requires informed and conscious interventions, and these assume an increasingly fundamental importance. In this context, the investigation aims, starting from the study of the contemporary fabric, to understand the evolution of the urban form and thus contribute to the understanding of the current city as well as to the projection of its future.
