Considerando a realidade multicultural dos serviços hospitalares da grande Lisboa, onde a
população africana com uma incidência elevada de VIH, este trabalho teve por objectivo analisar as
crenças, as representações e as vivências de adultos africanos infectados com VIH e as implicações
destas na Educação para a Saúde.
Tendo por base um enquadramento teórico em que foram abordados alguns temas: a sociedade
multicultural e a interculturalidade; Educação para a Saúde; o Cuidar e a Enfermagem Transcultural, a
relação de Portugal com os PALOP; o VIH/SIDA na sua história, epidemiologia e como patologia
física, mas também psicossocial, o VIH/SIDA na população africana, foram entrevistados treze
africanos que recorriam a serviços hospitalares ou de uma ONG utilizando a entrevista semi-directiva.
Os resultados permitiram identificar algumas das razões que encontram para a propagação do
VIH/SIDA neste grupo étnico, as representações sobre VIH/SIDA dos entrevistados, o modo como
vivenciam o processo de doença, terapêutico, as perspectivas face aos tratamentos utilizados e
conhecidos, e os significados da doença.
Taking in consideration the multicultural reality in Lisbon's hospital services, where many of Africans patients are infected with HIV, this research pretends to examine the beliefs, representations and life of African adults who are infected with HIV and the implications of such on Education and Health. Having set a theoretical background - where it was approached themes as multicultural and intercultural society; Health Education; taking care and nursing between cultures; Portugal's relationship with the PALOP; HIV/Aids's history, epidemic state, not only as a physic disease but also as psychosocial; HIV/AIDS within the African population - 13 Africans who utilized hospital or NGO services were interviewed following the semi-direct type of interview. The results allowed to identify some of the reasons which explain the increase of HIV/Aids within this ethnic group, the interviewee's point of view regarding the disease, how they live its process and its therapy, and theirs perspectives concerning the available treatments and moreover the significance of HIV/AIDS.
