Esta pesquisa tem o objetivo de descrever o escravismo no contexto da mineração dos diamantes na região da Demarcação Diamantina, em Minas Gerais, compreendendo o período de 1729 – ano da descoberta oficial das pedras preciosas – a 1808, quando tem início a crise da Real Extração, diminuindo o número de escravos empregados nos serviços de mineração. O estudo se concentra na análise da legislação vigente na época, ressaltando o Regimento Diamantino, que estabeleceu a extração dos diamantes a cargo da Real Fazenda. Procura-se analisar o trabalho dos escravos nas minas, sua condição de vida e saúde, bem como os castigos a eles impostos. Ademais, são descritas as formas de resistência que os escravos encontraram na luta contra o sistema escravista, em busca da conquista de sua liberdade. Por fim, o trabalho apresenta os diversos tipos de alforria e os mais usados na região diamantífera.
This research aims to describe slavery in the context of diamond mining in the Diamond Demarcation region of Minas Gerais, including the period from 1729 - the year of the official discovery of precious stones - to 1808, when the Real Extraction crisis began, reducing the number of slaves employed in mining services. The study focuses on the analysis of the legislation in force at the time, highlighting the Diamantino Regiment, which established the extraction of diamonds by Real Estate. It seeks to analyze the work of the slaves in the mines, their condition of life and health, as well as the punishments imposed on them. In addition, the forms of resistance that the slaves found in the struggle against the slave system in search of the conquest of their freedom are described. Finally, the work presents the various types of manumission and the most used in the diamond region.
