Resumo(s)
The following project presents a theoretical and practical study around the role of ancestors' memory in identity formation, with a special focus on the descendants of Northeastern families of multiple ethnic origins. Starting from the personal case of the researcher, with indigenous, black and white origins, we inquire how the lack of genealogical records - oral, written, imagery, among others - affects the creation and development of our identity. From the lack of knowledge of their own history, we think of fabulation (Deleuze) as a place of imagination for the construction and perpetuation of the memories of the northeastern people, historically destined to live isolated in their time and to inhabit subalternized places. Armed with the concepts of rhizome and deterritorialization (Deleuze and Guattari), we challenge the idea of fixed and stable identity, seeing it rather as something constantly constructed and transformed through relationships and connections with the most varied elements of the world around us; and uprootedness (Simone Weil), as the loss of the sense of belonging and the feeling of existential emptiness that often accompanies the movement, desired or forced, of moving away from our place of origin. We will use the audiovisual medium, working on the idea of image-imagination (Didi-Huberman), as a tool capable of evoking memories, stimulating reflection and creating internal narratives in those who produce and observe it. A meeting point between the visible and the invisible, between the material and the immaterial, denoting the fine distinction between the documentary and the fictional, between truth and lies in the telling of our own history. With records captured in northeastern Brazil between February and March 2023 – Tremedal (Bahia), Enseada Grande (Maranhão), Anajatuba (Maranhão) and São Luís (Maranhão) – we seek, through narrative and image, to rescue silenced stories and give many of these identities a better outcome beyond oblivion and pain.
