A presente dissertação procura
cristã no interior do país.
Norte.
Born in the United States in the first decades of the 20th century, inside the rising Pentecostal movement, the Assemblies of God granted a fast expansion. In the 30’s, they managed to arrive to Portugal, through some converted Portuguese emigrants and foreign missionaries. This thesis aims to study and clarify the logics of implementation, expansion and transformation of this movement in Portugal, through the course that would lead to the foundation of a new church in Lousã, later known as "Abundant Life Christian Center", from the initiative of the Assembly of God in Moscavide, Lisbon. It is intended to clarify the Church's deployment strategies, the way it is settled and raised, its social and economic impact, in a village located in the Center of Portugal, in a context of Catholic dominance. The church of Moscavide, that had already shown itself, in previous decades, as a very active community, gathered around the construction of a new Christian community in the Portuguese inland. This is a case study, involving many people and many variants in order to succeed. A church decided to found another church, facing all the difficulties of a new settlement in an unknown region, which became a challenge that united all the community. The desire of the community of Moscavide for its expansion was, from the beginning, one of its most important landmarks. All its members were invited to contribute generously but voluntarily for the propagation of the Gospel. In this study, we try to show the commitment, also through financial aid and attendance, developed by the whole Church in all its generations towards the construction of the new community of Lousã. The Church of Moscavide is a community settled in a urban context, that tries to adapt its strategy to a new semi-rural environment: Lousã is a small village in Portuguese inner land, classified as North Inner Pine-wood, with a strong rural component.
