Abstract: In the art historiography panorama of Portugal, the turning point from the 18th to the 19th century, atheme we believe significant for the understanding of art in this period is what deals with the almost unknown pictorial work of Arcangelo Fuschini, a painter which we intend to integrate in the ideological, aesthetic and political experience in the era he lived. In a way, the artist fell into obscurity after a lifetime of relative success and over time it has aggravated. The fact that, recently, an important mural of his origin has been revealed (uncovered and just recently restored) drew attention to his personality, given the evident merit revealed. This mural as well as other paintings in the Ajuda National Palace, not only of Fuschini but also from other authors of the same time (works which, in our opinion, signify the last grasp of absolutism in Portugal), is of extreme importance to the study of all the works of this regal painter. Gradually, a series of works identified extended the artist's framework in the context of his time, and this is the aim of our work. We will seek to include in this study the course of life of Arcangelo Fuschini and his works which were conserved, analyzing the evolution of his style and framing it in the sociocultural environment and tastes of the time. Knowing that compiling all the treasures of this artist is too ambitious, we will try to collect and expose the largest amount possible of works that we can analyze, some of which unpublished, in the sequential limits available for its realization.
