A sexualidade das pessoas idosas: um estudo realizado num lar de pessoas idosas do concelho de Alenquer

Este estudo teve como principais objetivos caracterizar alguns aspectos da sexualidade de pessoas idosas residentes num lar residencial, perceber a importância que esta adquire nesta fase da vida e identificar as suas dificuldades na vivência da sexualidade, tendo em conta os fatores que podem exercer influência, designadamente a situação de saúde ou o facto de residirem num lar.
Em termos metodológicos foram realizadas 31 entrevistas, tendo-se recorrido ao método da Grounded Theory.
Com base nas informações dos entrevistados, constatou-se que, por parte das mulheres, há uma clara desvalorização da vida sexual no presente, que pode decorrer da vivência de experiências sexuais negativas quando eram mais novas.
Outra conclusão que resulta do estudo prende-se com o facto de as mulheres se resignarem perante a impossibilidade de os maridos poderem ter relações sexuais, embora tenham sido identificados outros constrangimentos que dificultam a vivência de relações sexuais: por um lado, a inexistência de potenciais parceiros sexuais no lar e, fundamentalmente, questões de ordem moral, que as mulheres colocam a si próprias.
Por fim é de referir a dificuldade que os entrevistados manifestaram em falar da sexualidade.
A partir deste estudo pode concluir-se que, no caso deste lar, a sexualidade não assume grande importância para os entrevistados, o que contraria estudos idênticos realizados noutras condições. Neste sentido, afigura-se importante realizar outros estudos sobre esta matéria, visando aprofundar o conhecimento sobre a sexualidade das pessoas idosas.
This study aims to characterize some aspects of the sexuality of elderly people living in a nursing home; to understand its importance in this life stage and to identify their difficulties in sexual life. The study aims also to find out the most important factors which have more impact on sexuality, namely health status or living in a nursing home. The research has been based on 31 qualitative interviews, using the Grounded Theory approach. Interviews show that there is a clear devaluation of sexual life in the present, which can be related to negative sexual experiences in the past. The women in the study said that they had accepted with resignation the difficulties of their husbands to have sexual intercourse. Other constrains to enjoy sexuality were the difficulty to meet sexual partners in nursing home and moral issues with origin in cultural patterns where women have been socialized. Our findings do not support the conclusion of others studies which show a continued interest on sex in advanced ages. So there is a need for new research in similar contexts.
