dc.description.abstractThis work project was carried out within the scope of the Master of Science in Conservation, Restoration and Contemporary Art Production. It aims to describe the work carried out in a curricular internship held between January and March 2020, June, and July 2021, at the Municipal Archive - Photographic Archive, under the guidance of Luís Pavão. The theoretical framework starts with a historical contextualization of the daguerreotype making, its success and the processes that emerged afterwards. In order to establish a relationship with the 20th century and the present moment, it is analysed the example of five contemporary artists. In the second part, issues of conservation and restoration of photography are addressed, identifying the main processes of degradation of daguerreotypes: chemical, physical and biological, and the most appropriate methodologies for their restoration, as well as preventive conservation measures. The third and final part contains the internship report, describing the intervention carried out in a collection donated to the archive in 2017, consisting of six pieces, a daguerreotype and five tintypes. The work was carried out with the objective of storing and conserving the six pieces, contributing to their material preservation and ensuring their stability in the future.pt_PT
