It is no lie that as a society we are in constant change, especially in cities, as a result of industrialization processes and technological innovations that appear at an increasingly accelerated pace. Despite the continuous efforts that have been made to improve human living conditions and respect for the environment, the social and territorial reality makes it increasingly clear the importance of planning practices based on a broad and thought-out strategy to adopt these new innovations that, when applied without strategic support, end up harming the human being even more, as can be seen in the Alcântara Valley. This Valley, a rich and lively place where it was once allowed to walk freely from one end to the other, was fractured by human intervention that, with the construction of significant infrastructures, allocated the protagonism role to the car and circulation spaces, to the detriment of pedestrians and spaces for the enjoyment of residents. With the Proposed Project, it is intended to (re)live the memory of the Valley, changing the current scenario so that the direct pedestrian connection between one side of the Valley and the other can be verified through a renaturalization of the Valley that establishes connections and creates public spaces that foster the spirit of a united community of which there is a memory. In order for the renaturalization of the Valley to become possible, the restoration of the Alcântara stream, the replanting of agricultural fields in the areas adjacent to it, and the creation of a park that connects all these elements with leisure spaces for the community of the hillside of the Valley meet and, at the same time, connect with the rest of the city. The present proposal, in addition to seeking to re-naturalize the Valley and re-establish all the essential characteristics of an essential ecosystem at the scale of the entire city of Lisbon, also seeks to create new centralities through the filling of pre-existing neighborhoods on the slope of the valley, promoting inclusion and development in a part of the city that sometimes seems forgotten.
