Adolf Loos (1870-1933), surgiu na Secessão Vienense, associação que se iria rebelar contra a
Genorsenschaft Bildender KĂŒnstler (Sociedade dos Artistas Vienenses). ApĂłs ver uma
exposição negada no edifĂcio da SecessĂŁo, desenhado por Joseph Maria Olbrich, Adolf Loos sai
da associação, liderada por Otto Wagner.
Nascido em Brno, na atual Chéquia, é depois duma aventura de 3 anos nos Estados Unidos que
ele constrĂłi todo o seu pensamento sobre o que deveria ser a Arquitetura. Possuidor dum
espĂrito muito critico, escreve Ornamento e Crime em 1908, que irĂĄ transfigurar a arquitetura
para sempre. Em 1910, Adolf Loos projeta o edifĂcio Goldman and Salatsch que seria uma
reacção contundente contra o Historicismo. A sua audåcia iria valer-lhe duras criticas mas
tambĂ©m alguns seguidores, ele funda a sua escola privada, lâĂcole du BĂątiment, e persiste nas
suas ideias que iriam levar o mundo ao Modernismo.
Considerado pioneiro do Modernismo, Le Corbusier,tem uma obra teĂłrica igualmente
importante, ele preconiza cinco pontos essenciais para um edifĂcio, um deles o plan libre, ao
contrårio de Adolf Loos que preconizava o Raumplan, um sistema que através duma
diferenciação de cotas, integrava uma maior riqueza espacial.
Este trabalho final de Mestrado pretende ver qual Ă© a importĂąncia de Adolf Loos para o
Modernismo, comparando-o com um dos seus pioneiros, Le Corbusier.
Adolf Loos (1870-1933), emerged in the Viennese Secession, association that would rebel aggainst Genorsenschaft Bildender KĂŒnstler (Viennese Artists Society). After a denied exposition in the Secession building, designed by Joseph Maria Olbrich, Adolf Loos leaves the association, leadered by Otto Wagner. Borned in Brno, in actual Czech Republic, it is after a three-year adventure in the United States that he builds all that would be his thoughts on architecture. Owner of a critic spirit, he writes Ornament and Crime in 1908, that would transfire architecture forever. In 1910, Adolf Loos projected the Goldman and Salatsch building that would leave a great mark aggainst Historicism. His boldness got him several critics but also some followers, he founds his private school, lâĂcole du BĂątiment, and persists in his ideas that would lead the way to Modernism. Considered a modernist pioneer, Le Corbusier,has an also important work in architecture theory , he preconizes five essencial points for a buiding, one of them is plan libre, contrary to Adolf Loos that preconizes Raumplan,a system that has a spacial richness through levelsâs diferenciation. This masters degreeâs final work tries to see what is Adolf Loosâs importance to Modernism, comparing him with another Modernism pioneer, Le Corbusier. Key-words:
