O presente trabalho incide na procura e reflexão de uma nova cidade, olhando para um território fragmentado e adaptando as suas memórias às necessidades atuais da cidade, articulando assim uma conexão entre água, margem e meio urbano.
Este território diz respeito a uma margem do rio Tejo, a Margem Sul situada no estuário do Tejo, e o foco faz-se sobre a extrema nascente da margem, a Margueira.
Neste lugar encontra-se ao abandono um antigo aterro da indústria Naval, onde na sua arquitetura prevalecem os rasgos das docas e o pórtico vertical, tão característicos desse lugar, os quais serão também o impulso para um novo desenvolvimento e reaproveitamento desta margem.
É necessário por isso, repensar a Margem Sul, não como foco principal das indústrias pesadas, que por vezes são deixadas ao abandono, e sim como uma zona ribeirinha que possa ser usufruída também pelas cidades, na dinamização de eventos e espaços de lazer para as populações. Incidindo na zona da Margueira, um lugar por si só desafiante e complexo, mas que contém muitas possibilidades para o desenvolvimento.
Por esta razão, o novo desenho de estratégia da Margem Sul irá ser o ponto de partida para dar forma à imagem da Margueira.
Numa segunda escala olhasse para a nascente da cidade de Almada, que se desconecta das possíveis interações e vivências entre cidade e a sua zona ribeirinha.
O pormenor de detalhe arquitetónico na Margueira, como o clube naval, o Centro de Investigação Marítima, o Centro Cultural Interpretativo, a praia urbana, as termas e outras estruturas de apoio, surgem por fim para dar auxílio e desenvolvimento a este novo espaço à beira rio.
The present work focuses on the search and reflection on a new city, looking at a fragmented territory and adapting its memories to the current needs of the city, thus establishing a connection between water, the riverbank, and the urban environment. This territory refers to a riverbank of the Tejo River, the Margem Sul located in the Tejo estuary, with the main focus being on the extreme source of the riverbank, Margueira. In this place, an old landfill from the Naval industry is abandoned, where the features of the docks and the vertical portico, so characteristic of this place, prevails in its architecture. These features will also serve as the driving force for new development and reuse of this riverbank. Therefore, it is necessary to rethink the Margem Sul, not as the main focus of heavy industries, which sometimes are left to abandonment, but rather as a riverfront area that can also be enjoyed by cities, promoting events and leisure spaces for the population. Focusing on the Margueira area, a place that is inherently challenging and complex, but which holds many possibilities for development. For this reason, the new strategy design for the Margem Sul will be the starting point to shape the image of Margueira. On a smaller scale, attention is given to the rising point of the city Almada, which is disconnected from potential interactions and experiences between the city and its riverfront. The architectural details in Margueira, such as the naval club, the Maritime Research Center, the Interpretive Cultural Center, the urban beach, the thermal baths, and other supporting structures, ultimately emerge to provide assistance and development to this new riverside space.
