Este trabalho foi desenvolvido no âmbito do Curso de Mestrado em Ciências da Educação/
História da Educação, na Faculdade de Psicologia e Ciências da Educação da Universidade de
Lisboa.
Pretende-se com esta dissertação traçar um percurso diacrónico da evolução do sub-sistema
educativo designado por Ensino Especial e em épocas mais próximas de Educação Especial,
desde as suas origens no início do século XX até aos nossos dias.
O seu enfoque, situa-se porém no estudo do Instituto António Aurélio da Costa Ferreira, na
época em que Vítor Fontes foi o seu director ( 1935- 1964), propondo-se estudar as suas
múltiplas funções:
a) Centro de Observação Clínica ( modelo Child Guidance Clinic),
b) Dispensário Central de Higiene Mental Infantil;
c) Escola de formação de professores do Ensino Especial ( professores de crianças
anormais).
d) Centro de estudos e de investigação.
Propõe-se ainda perspectivar o surgimento das linhas de orientação conducentes à
integração de alunos com Necessidades Educativas Especiais no sistema regular de ensino, nas
décadas de 60 e 70.
This work was developed in the sphere of a Mastership course in Sciences of Education/ History of Education at the Psychology Sciences of Education School, in Lisbon University. We intend, with this dissertation, to outline a diachronic way of the evolution of the Portuguese Sub- educational system Known as “ Special Teaching”, and more recently as “ Special Education”, since its origins, in the beginning of the twenthieth century, till nowadays. However its focus is the study of the “ Instituto António Aurélio da Costa Ferreira”, when Vítor Fontes was its director ( 1935- 1964) ; it studies the several functions of this institute, such as: a)- centre of clinical observation ( model chid guidance clinic); b)- central dispensary in child mental hygiene; c)- training school for teachers of mentally disabled children; d)- centre of studies and investigation in this area. This work also aims to show the main conducent lines to the integration of pupils with special educative necessities in the regular educational system, during the 60- 70 decades.
