Contributo dos estilos parentais para a relação do envolvimento paterno (qualidade e quantidade) com o comportamento da criança

Este estudo foca o envolvimento paterno (qualidade e quantidade), os estilos parentais (autoritário, democrático e permissivo) e o comportamento da criança, num grupo de homens com filhos em idade escolar (5-12 anos), procurando dar resposta à lacuna constatada na literatura face à relação entre estas variáveis quando estão em causa efeitos de mediação. Pretendeu-se: 1) analisar a relação (bivariada) entre as três variáveis; 2) analisar o papel mediador dos estilos parentais na relação entre o envolvimento paterno e o comportamento da criança. Utilizou-se um Questionário Demográfico e Psicossocial e os seguintes instrumentos: Escala de Envolvimento Paterno, Inventário de Envolvimento Paterno-Versão Reduzida, Questionário de Estilos e Dimensões Parentais-Versão Reduzida e Questionário de Capacidades e Dificuldades. Participaram no estudo 250 pais, com idades entre os 25 e os 64 anos (M = 42.24; DP = 5.78). De acordo com os resultados obtidos, o envolvimento paterno-qualidade associou-se positivamente com o estilo democrático (r = .61) e negativamente com os estilos autoritário (r = -.23) e permissivo (r = -.18), observando-se também uma associação negativa com o comportamento (total) da criança (r = -.21). O envolvimento paterno-quantidade apenas se associou (positivamente) com o estilo democrático (r = .25). Por fim, nenhum dos estilos parentais se constituiu como um mediador da relação entre o envolvimento paterno-quantidade e o comportamento da criança. Contudo, os estilos autoritário (β = -.06, EPBoot = .02, 95% ICBoot [-.11, -.02]) e permissivo (β = -.03, EPBoot = .02, 95% ICBoot [-.07, -.01]) mediaram a relação entre o envolvimento paterno-qualidade e o comportamento. Os resultados sugerem a importância de atender ao tipo de envolvimento paterno quando estão em causa os mecanismos explicativos da relação envolvimento-comportamento da criança, e contribuem para a literatura que enfatiza o impacto de dimensões da parentalidade no comportamento da criança.
This study focuses on father involvement (quality and quantity), parenting styles (authoritarian, democratic and permissive) and child behavior in a group of fathers of school-aged children (5 to 12 years), aiming to fill the literature gap regarding the relationship between these variables when considering mediation effects. The objectives were 1) to analyze the (bivariate) relationship between the three variables and 2) to analyze the mediating role of parenting styles in the relationship between father involvement and child behavior.
