A partir do momento que os médicos dentistas começaram a realizar procedimentos restauradores que a disciplina de Oclusão tem despertado interesse. Desde então, muitos têm sido os conceitos e teorias que têm emergido sobre o tipo de esquema oclusal ideal para determinada reabilitação, gerando sempre alguma confusão e controvérsia. Cada tipo de reabilitação realizada, quer seja na disciplina de dentisteria, prostodontia fixa ou prostodontia removível, detém de um conjunto de características particulares que condicionam a escolha do tipo de esquema oclusal por parte do médico dentista. Esta Monografia tem como objectivo fazer uma revisão bibliográfica sobre os esquemas oclusais ideais a serem aplicados para cada tipo de reabilitação. Para a realização deste trabalho foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica nos motores de busca PubMed e ScienceDirect, assim como foi efectuada uma pesquisa em livros e revistas na biblioteca da Faculdade de Medicina Dentária da Universidade de Lisboa. Como resultado da pesquisa seleccionaram-se 69 trabalhos científicos de interesse para o presente tema. A realização desta dissertação permitiu concluir que cada tipo de reabilitação possui um conjunto de características que determina o esquema oclusal a ser adoptado. Devido ao contínuo desenvolvimento científico a Oclusão é uma disciplina que está em constante mudança. Deste modo, é importante que o médico dentista esteja a par dos conceitos e teorias vigentes de modo a que tenha sucesso no tratamento reabilitador.
The subject on occlusion has triggered interest ever since dentists started to perform restorative procedures. Many concepts and theories have emerged about the type of occlusal scheme that each rehabilitation should posses, still they generate some ado and controversy. Each type of accomplished rehabilitation, whether it´s in the subject of dentistry, fixed prosthodontics or removable prosthodontics, detains a vast pool of particular characteristics that condition the choice of occlusal scheme done by the dentist. This Monograph has the goal to do a bibliographic review concerning the criteria of occlusion that are applied for each type of rehabilitation. For the execution of this work a bibliographic research was done by search engines such as PubMed and ScienceDirect, thus there was also research in books and magazines in the library of the Faculdade de Medicina Dentária da Universidade de Lisboa. As a result to the research 69 scientific papers of interest were selected for the given theme. The completion of this paper permitted to conclude that each type of rehabilitation possesses a set of characteristics that determine the occlusal scheme that is adopted. Occlusion is a subject that is in continuous change due to its constant scientific development. Therefore, it´s important for the dentist to be privy with these valid theories and concepts in order to be successful in rehabilitation treatments.
