Cuidados paliativos peri e neonatais (CPPN) são cuidados de saúde com uma abordagem holística e dinâmica, que envolvem uma equipa multidisciplinar e que têm como objetivo garantir a melhor qualidade de vida possível para o feto/recém-nascido (RN) e respetiva família. Estes cuidados têm em conta medidas fundamentais como o alívio da dor e outros sintomas, apoio emocional, psicológico e espiritual. Os CPPN devem estar disponíveis em todos os casos de doença limitadora de vida ou potencialmente fatal (LV/PF) desde o diagnóstico, durante a evolução da doença, em fim de vida, após a morte e durante o luto.
É importante uma comunicação clara e permanente entre a equipa de saúde e com os familiares, facilitando a criação memórias para lidar de forma mais saudável com o luto. Apresenta-se o caso clínico de um recém-nascido, com o diagnóstico de encefalopatia hipóxico-isquémica (EHI) grave, com mau prognóstico, com indicação para referenciação a CPPN. É ainda apresentada uma revisão da literatura com base nos objetivos e orientações do modelo conceptual de CPPN.
Peri and neonatal palliative care is a health care with a holistic and dynamic approach, involving a multidisciplinary team and that aim to ensure the best possible quality of life for the fetus/newborn and their family. This care considers fundamental measures such as the relief of pain and other symptoms, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support. Peri and neonatal palliative care should be available in all cases of life-limiting or potentially fatal disease from diagnosis, evolution of the disease, at the end of life, after death and during grief. It is important to have a clear and constant communication between the health care team and the family, allowing the creation of memories to deal with grief in a healthier way. It is reported the clinical case of a newborn, who was diagnosed with severe hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, with poor prognosis, with indication for referral to peri and neonatal palliative care. A literature review based on the aims and recommendations of the peri and neonatal palliative conceptual model is also presented.
