| dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT: The selection, evaluation and development of an integrated management system library for higher artistic education is described in this work, which was conducted between 2010 and 2011, in two of the libraries of the IPL (Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa). From the reading of texts that reflect the perspectives of users of the libraries of the future we present alternatives that arise in this era of change, where information and knowledge will play more and more a significant responsibility. With such prospects in mind, the analysis of the strategic environment that surrounding these libraries, possible technological solutions and its internal environment to find the potential options concerning the choice of a solution, where the Web environment and the economic model of open source architectures will be essential. The decision to implement the program KOHA is made of various project phases - analysis, installation, configuration and functional testing, and we take the advantage to report the experience with this real case. For the conditions of the option be an open source application, it was only necessary to refer to computer specialists to install the program, all sequent phases were made in order to measure the technical capacity of the librarians to get them running. The experience reported here is the result of the approach to the skills required for this type of project and it allows eventually to be used for other similar cases in which it intends to innovate and offer new services to users of libraries. | |
