O estágio realizado no Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua, I.P., no âmbito do Mestrado em Tradução, permitiu a tradução de diversos documentos relacionados principalmente, mas não apenas, com o ensino e aprendizagem de línguas. As traduções foram efetuadas tanto para português como para inglês, e foi também realizada a revisão de material previamente traduzido. Cada texto possui características e desafios próprios, criando um leque diversificado de trabalhos realizados.
O relatório encontra-se dividido em 3 partes: o ponto 1 introduz a entidade de acolhimento e analisa os textos traduzidos, com indicação de qual foi a metodologia de trabalho; o ponto 2 faz um breve enquadramento histórico e teórico da área da tradução, com especial atenção para a tradução técnica; por último, a parte 3 analisa aspetos linguísticos relevantes durante o decorrer do estágio. Estes aspetos linguísticos centraram-se principalmente em questões sintático-semânticas e lexicais, organizadas pela estratégia de tradução utilizada, sendo indicadas as fontes consultadas e os motivos por trás das decisões tomadas. As questões sintático-semânticas analisadas envolvem essencialmente a referência indeterminada, particularmente o uso de sujeito ou agente da passiva indeterminados, enquanto as questões lexicais englobam terminologia pertencente à área do ensino e aprendizagem de língua e terminologia mais abrangente. São ainda tratadas brevemente outras questões, como a expressão de género e ainda aspetos relacionados com a revisão e edição de texto (e, ainda que de forma breve, imagens).
No decurso da análise, são apontadas e discutidas traduções alternativas válidas, pois, sendo a tradução uma área tão complexa, é frequente não haver apenas uma solução plausível. Os exemplos selecionados tentam referenciar situações desafiadoras de tradução que os tradutores tendem a encontrar, e que podem envolver a presença de terminologia especializada, mas vão muito além disso.
The internship carried out at Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua, I.P., as part of the Master's Programme in Translation, allowed the translation of several documents related mainly, but not exclusively, to language teaching and learning. The documents were translated both into Portuguese and into English, and previously translated material was also reviewed. Each text has its own characteristics and challenges, whence the work performed covers a diverse range of issues. The report is divided into 3 parts: part 1 introduces the host entity and analyses the translated texts, also explaining the work methodology; part 2 presents a brief historical and theoretical background of the translation field, with special attention to technical translation; finally, part 3 analyses linguistic aspects relevant during the internship. These linguistic aspects focused mainly on syntactic-semantic and lexical issues, organized by the translation strategy used, indicating the sources consulted and the reasons behind the decisions made. The syntactic-semantic issues analysed involve essentially indeterminate reference, namely the use of an indeterminate subject or of an indeterminate agent in passive structures, while the lexical issues encompass both terminology belonging to the field of language teaching and learning and more broad-ranging terminology. A brief scrutiny of a few other issues is also made, namely gender expression, and issues related to proofreading and the editing of text (and, albeit briefly, of images). During the analyses, valid alternative translations are pointed out and discussed, since – translation being such a complex area – there is often no single plausible solution. The selected examples attempt to reference challenging translation situations that translators tend to encounter, and that may involve the presence of specialized terminology, but go well beyond that.
