The present Master’s thesis is a rehabilitation and requalification proposal for the following lighthouses: Ponta da Piedade, Ponta do Altar and Alfanzina. These are located alongside the 25 km seacoast between Lagos and Lagoa regions in Algarve. This document motivation comes from the fact that these structures on the landscape are becoming more autonomous with the introduction of new technologies. Simultaneously, it is a project inspired by the connection between the author and the structures. She has a special bond for them, as she grew and shared most of her life. Some tools used over the course of the dissertation are primary sources, the Portuguese navy archive and Direção de Faróis included. It was executed the vectorization and update of original drawings and, as well, in-situ collections (views, colours, materials, dimensions). Upon a critical analysis over each lighthouse (history, current use cases, preservation), linked with the author and a lighthouse keeper knowledge of its usage, it was defined different strategies for the resolution of the identified challenges. In any case, the use of the lighthouse structure and the introduction of complementary and compatible programs (like tourism and museology) were key for the survival and appreciation of these structures. The individual proposals for each of these three lighthouses consist in the transformation, rehabilitation or new constructions to (re)organize utilities, pathways, experiences and its presence on the landscape. To think about the preservation and rehabilitation of the lighthouses, connecting with the scenery and patrimony, are the purpose of this thesis.
