The Supervised Teaching Practice Report is presented with the title Pombal’s Project of Enlightened Influence and the Society of Jesus included in the programmatic subjects of “A” History of the 11th grade, Module 5: The Construction of European Modernity. As part of the Master’s Degree in Teaching History in the 3rd cycle and secondary school, this proposal was put into practice by teaching classes in the Maria Amália Vaz de Carvalho High School in Lisbon. Despite having taught subjects related to contemporary history to a 12th grade class, included more precisely in the Modules 1.4. Mutations in Behavior and Culture and 2.4. The Social and Political Dimension of Culture, we used them as a vehicle to apply the didactic method, as well as some of the main pedagogical theories that will be described in detail as a reflection of our teaching practice. As referenced above, the main theme of this work relates to the ruling action of the Marquis of Pombal. For that reason, we raise awareness to Point 4.2. – The Philosophy of the Enlightenment – since it addresses the movement that had an enormous influence on Pombal’s ruling methods and the consequences it brought to those who were one of the major teaching actors of the Modern Era (The Society of Jesus). On the other hand, we describe Pombal’s ruling action in Portugal under the influence of enlightened principles, emphasizing the major reforms he brought about, amongst which we mention the social, economical and, more relevant to us, the educational. Above all, our didactical proposal intends to demonstrate that many themes related to the History of Portugal are treated with some flippancy, often being characterized as “irrelevant subjects.” We seek to value our history and our memory as a people. A country that does not recognize its own history will lose its identity.
