O objeto de estudo do seguinte trabalho de investigação é analisar as experiências de Responsabilidade Social (RS) em Portugal que envolvem a Sustentabilidade Ambiental como um desiderato a considerar na missão da empresa. Servimo-nos do exemplo de um grande grupo financeiro português, a Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD).
Assim sendo, definimos alguns objetivos específicos tais como, desenvolver os conceitos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (DS) e de Responsabilidade Social; analisar a relação entre os dois conceitos; discutir a importância da Sustentabilidade Ambiental como pilar do DS; tentar perceber como vai o estado de Arte da Responsabilidade Social em Portugal; analisar/avaliar a experiência de uma grande empresa portuguesa (CGD) que, nas suas atividades de RS, inclui estratégias de Sustentabilidade Ambiental das Florestas (Sustentabilidade Florestal), nomeadamente com o programa de florestação da Tapada Nacional de Mafra (TNM).
Como fim último, pretendemos avaliar as potencialidades e fragilidades para a performance da CGD no desenvolvimento de ações de RS em Portugal.
Consideramos que este tema tem uma grande importância para as grandes empresas, uma vez que a inserção destas no mercado implica uma postura estratégica socialmente responsável que vise contribuir para uma sociedade mais justa e um ambiente mais limpo, de forma também a consolidarem a sua reputação, numa sociedade cada vez mais atenta às questões ambientais.
The purpose of this research work is to analyze the Social Responsibility (RS) experiences in Portugal that involve Environmental Sustainability (Forests) as a desire to be considered in a large group's mission such as Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD). Specific objectives were defined such as, developing the concepts of Sustainable Development (DS) and Social Responsibility; analyze the connection between the two; discuss the relevance of Environmental Sustainability as a foundation of DS; trying to understand how the Social Responsibility's state of Art is in Portugal; analyze/evaluate the CGD experience that, in their RS activities, include strategies for the Forests Environmental Sustainability, with the reforestation program of Tapada Nacional de Mafra (TNM). A questionnaire was applied to the Department of Communication and Brand of CGD (Dra. Paula Viegas and Dra. Maria Helena Simões), a deep analysis of the Sustainability Reports produced by the institution was conducted, and also analyzed the relevant references. We intend to evaluate the potential and fragilities to CGD's performance in the development of Environmental Sustainability actions. Although the relative insufficiency of quantitative information about this question it becomes difficult to achieve this goal, for now. We highlight the subject as of a great importance for big companies, since their insertion in the market implies a social responsible strategic posture, that aims to contribute to a fairer society and a cleaner environment, in a way to consolidate their reputation in a society overall more alert to environmental questions.
