Enfermagem feminina em Portugal no contexto da Primeira Guerra Mundial : formação e prática assistencial

Este trabalho é resultado de uma investigação feita a partir de fontes
disponíveis nos arquivos da Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa, e na Biblioteca Nacional de
Portugal, e que nos possibilitaram analisar o passado de mulheres que prestaram
serviço à nação no período da Grande Guerra. Mulheres corajosas que lutaram pela
sociedade e pelo bem dos combatentes da Primeira Guerra, nomeadamente dos
portugueses. Fundaram escolas para por cobro à elevada taxa de analfabetismo,
sobretudo o feminino, e ainda instituíram cursos de Enfermagem para qualificar
pessoal para prestar auxílio aos soldados feridos e mutilados de guerra. Um
empreendedorismo beneficente que abrangeu as famílias dos militares, viúvas e
órfãos da guerra. Prestaram um serviço à comunidade substituindo-se ao papel do
Estado e com o patrocínio do Estado.
This essay is the result of an investigation based on sources from the arquives of the Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa and the Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal, that have allowed us to analise the past of women that have payed service to the nation in the Great War period. Brave women who fought for the society and for the Fisrt War’s fighters, namely the portuguese ones. They founded schools to end the high illiteracy rate, especially the female, and also instituted Nursing courses to qualify people to provide assistance to wounded and mutilated war soldiers. A charitable entrepreneurship that covered the families of the military, widows and orphans of war. They have served the community by replacing themselves with the role of the State and with the sponsorship of the state.
