The base of this research is to create an inventory and monographic note about the life and work of João Duarte, from the analysis of monuments, trophies and medals that result as a public ordering, making a reflection about the typological possibilities, languages and technical and matters. In addition, it’s made an approach concerning the poetic and activity as teacher, which are essential to the understanding of this entire study. João Duarte is a contemporary sculptor, placed in the Portuguese artistic context, in the 80’s. Being recognized nationally and internationally, in the area of medals, as his main sculptural work as well as his author’s poetic, he approaches the treatment of the female figure with round shapes and quotidian irony. The sculpture of Monument and Trophies are also fundamental parts to the development of his career
