Based on the principle that design is a doctrine that goes beyond aesthetics, this research proposes an in-depth reflection that highlights the crucial role of abductive reasoning as a cognitive characteristic inherent to the designer's profile, with a special emphasis on the construction and development of new ideas. This study aims to demystify this concept through an analysis of various paradigms and perspectives that seek to reveal its relevance in different fields: cognitive, creative, logical, and intuitive. The research is based on the emerging motivation of curiosity to understand how designers' thinking differs from that of other people, namely through their ability to imagine what does not yet exist and to transform constraints into opportunities. This distinction is based on the notion of abductive reasoning, which proves to be an essential element for the development of original solutions. The dissertation covers a range of interconnected topics, starting with an analysis of different types of reasoning and then exploring strategies and tools that stimulate creativity and divergent thinking. Developing different theoretical contributions from logic, psychology, and design, this work seeks to understand how and when abduction manifests itself throughout the creative process. This study culminates in the conceptualization and prototyping of a creative solution that integrates into this context, enhances the use of abductive reasoning throughout the idea generation process, and stands out as a disruptive response in the context of innovation. In this way, the dissertation seeks to contribute positively to a deeper understanding of the cognitive nature of design by encouraging designers to develop their abductive reasoning so that they can develop more holistic and structured approaches.
