dc.description.abstractO espaço da biblioteca é reconhecido como um ambiente propício ao estudo, e ainda que fora da sala de aula, contribui para o envolvimento dos alunos na escola. Este estudo desenvolve uma reflexão teórica a partir de dois eixos conceptuais: a psicologia do ambiente e o espaço biblioteca, no âmbito escolar. A psicologia do ambiente é uma área que estuda tudo o que envolve o ser humano. Refere-se ao espaço físico e aos estímulos que nele existem, tais como o som, a paisagem, ou o clima, estudando a forma como o ambiente influencia o indivíduo ou grupos de indivíduos e como o comportamento humano, individual ou social, influi no ambiente. No espaço da biblioteca pode refletir-se sobre uma organização pensada para o estudo e fruição, através da leitura. Os espaços das bibliotecas têm vindo a adaptar-se às circunstâncias dos sistemas educativos de que fazem parte. Eles são também espaços permeáveis e abertos, mutuamente influenciados e influenciadores da comunidade educativa onde se inserem. A articulação destas duas perspetivas é a base para a reflexão sobre o envolvimento do aluno na escola. Sendo as bibliotecas espaços que se inserem no seio de instituições educativas, contribuem para a compreensão do fenómeno educativo e dos vários processos que o constituem. Estes locais (dentro da escola, mas fora da aula) funcionam, num certo sentido, como âncoras de fixação dos estudantes no espaço escolar. As relações com o ensino e a aprendizagem, nomeadamente em termos do envolvimento dos alunos na escola, podem, em resultado da resposta dos estudantes às variáveis ambientais, e das interações daí decorrentes, contribuir para se atingir o sucesso na aprendizagem e prevenir comportamentos negativos, como o abandono ou absentismo escolar.pt_PT
dc.description.abstractThe library space is looked upon as a favorable environment for studying. Even though it is external to the classroom, it contributes to students’ engagement in school. This study develops a theoretical reflection based on two conceptual axes: environmental psychology and the library space, in the school context. Environmental psychology is a field which studies everything involving the human being. It refers to physical space and to the stimuli that exist in it, such as sound, landscape or climate, studying the way the environment influences individuals or groups of individuals, and how individual or social human behavior influences the environment. The library space allows a reflection about an organization designed for study and fruition, through reading. Library spaces have been gradually adapting to the circumstances of the educational systems that they are part of. They are also permeable and open spaces, being both influenced by and influencers of the educational community where they belong. The articulation of these two perspectives provides the basis for reflection about students’ engagement in school. As libraries are spaces inserted within educational institutional, they contribute to the understanding of the educational phenomenon and of the different processes it consists of. In a way, these places (within the school, but outside the classroom) work like fixation anchors for students in the school space. As a result of students’ responses to environmental variables and of the interactions involved, relationships with teaching and learning (namely in terms of students’ engagement in school) may contribute to achieve at learning and prevent negative behavior, such as school abandonment or truancy.pt_PT
