This research aims to validate the estimation of chronological age in a Portuguese population, through the application of Cameriere Method in upper central incisors using orthopantomographys analysis, included in the scope of forensic age estimation. The population sample consisted of 100 orthopantomographys of the Department of Imagiology of FMDUL selected among patients of the same college, with Portuguese nationality, aged between 15 and 35 years, who were 49 females and 51 males. Through Adobe Photoshop® program, it was carried out measurements in pixels/centimeter of the teeth and dental pulp areas. The statistical analysis of the obtained data was performed using contingency tables, covariance analysis, simple linear regression models, variance analysis and the inflation factor variance. The level of significance was set at 5 %. The results showed statistically significant differences between chronological age and dental age estimated by Cameriere method in orthopantomographys using the maxillary central incisors. However, there were no statistically significant differences between the estimated age between the upper incisors, left and right, and the upper canines, in which a study was conducted in parallel with the same sample. It also reveals some differences upon gender separation. With this study we can conclude that with respect to central incisors and canines, the teeth with greater statistical power, but no statistically significant difference, are the maxillary right central incisor in females and the upper right canine in males. It is suggested further studies applied to the Portuguese population, with a greater number of individuals in the sample and covering a greater range of ages, in order to expand the scientific evidence of this quantitative method to be applied in orthopantomographys.
