Este estudo analisa os principais avanços dos Pequenos Estados Insulares em
Desenvolvimento (SIDS) no âmbito da cooperação internacional para a mitigação e
prevenção do impacto das mudanças climáticas. Por meio de uma revisão bibliográfica e
análise documental, são abordadas as características dos SIDS, o impacto das mudanças
climáticas nessas regiões e as medidas adotadas para enfrentar esse desafio global. A Teoria
da Interdependência Complexa é utilizada como referencial teórico para compreender a
necessidade de uma abordagem cooperativa na resposta às mudanças climáticas. O estudo
destaca a importância da participação ativa dos SIDS nas negociações internacionais, a
cooperação regional, a mobilização de recursos financeiros adequados e a inclusão da
perspectiva de gênero e das comunidades marginalizadas. Recomenda-se um esforço
contínuo para fortalecer a eficácia das medidas de mitigação e adaptação dos SIDS, a fim de
enfrentar de forma mais eficaz os desafios climáticos e promover um desenvolvimento
sustentável e justo nas ilhas.
This study examines the main advancements of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the realm of international cooperation for the mitigation and prevention of the impacts of climate change. Through a literature review and documentary analysis, it addresses the characteristics of SIDS, the impact of climate change on these regions, and the measures undertaken to tackle this global challenge. The theory of Complex Interdependence is used as a theoretical framework to understand the need for a cooperative approach in responding to climate change. The study highlights the importance of active participation of SIDS in international negotiations, regional cooperation, mobilization of adequate financial resources, and the inclusion of gender perspective and marginalized communities. It recommends a continuous effort to strengthen the effectiveness of mitigation and adaptation measures by SIDS to more effectively address climate challenges and promote sustainable and equitable development in the islands.
