Normas e estratégias de tradução para legendagem em streaming e fansubbing em português europeu : um estudo de caso

| dc.description.abstract | Este trabalho tem como objectivo identificar as principais diferenças entre as normas e estratégias de tradução seguidas na tradução para legendagem em streaming e em fansubbing para português europeu. Aplica as propostas téoricas de Gideon Toury (1995/2012) e Andrew Chesterman (1997/2016) e recorre à metodologia do estudo de caso, seleccionando para estudo um episódio de uma série de anime disponível na plataforma do serviço de streaming Netflix, que também foi traduzido e legendado por um grupo de fansub português, o RevAnime. Apresenta-se, em primeiro lugar, o enquadramento teórico, referindo as principais modalidades de tradução audiovisual, com especial atenção à tradução para legendagem, os principais parâmetros de tradução para legendagem exigidos pela Netflix, assim como uma descrição do fansubbing e da sua prática em Portugal. Segue-se uma descrição da metodologia, do corpus criado para este efeito e dos critérios que motivaram a sua constituição. Por fim, apresentam-se os resultados da análise comparativa do corpus através da selecção e análise de exemplos representativos, sistematizando as principais diferenças entre as normas e estratégias de tradução seguidas na tradução para legendagem em streaming e em fansubbing para português europeu. A análise revelou resultados contrários às expectativas. Na tradução para streaming da Netflix foram identificadas traduções literais, em conformidade com uma norma inicial de adequação e, além disso, alguns erros de tradução e desvios à prática de tradução para legendagem profissional. Na tradução realizada pelo grupo de fansub RevAnime parafraseia-se a informação, resultando em enunciados mais fluentes na língua de chegada, seguindo uma norma inicial de aceitabilidade, com a excepção de referentes específicos à cultura japonesa, que são preservados e explicados em nota de tradutor no topo do ecrã, prática comum aos grupos de fansub. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | This paper proposes to study the main differences in translation norms and strategies in subtitling practices in streaming and fansubbing in European Portuguese. We applied the theoretical proposals by Gideon Toury (1995/2012) and Andrew Chesterman (1997/2016) and used the study case methodology, by selecting an episode of an anime series available on Netflix, which was also subtitled by a Portuguese fansub group, RevAnime. First, this paper presents the main theoretical framework, describing the main audiovisual modalities, with special focus on subtitling and presenting the main subtitling parameters required by Netflix, as well as a description of fansubbing and its practice in Portugal. Second, it provides a description of the methodology used, the corpus created for this purpose and the criteria for its selection. Third, the results of the comparative analysis of the corpus are presented through the selection and analysis of representative examples, systemizing the main differences between translation norms and strategies followed in subtitling in streaming and in fansubbing in European Portuguese. The results of the analysis did not meet the expectations. In the translation presented by Netflix we identified literal translations, conforming to an initial norm of adequacy. In addition, some translation mistakes were found, as well as translation options that go against the professional subtitling practice. In the translation of the fansub group RevAnime the information is paraphrased, resulting in more fluent utterances in the target language, thus, revealing an initial norm of acceptability, except in the case of referents specific to the Japanese culture, which are preserved and explained in a translator’s note at the top of the screen, a common practice among fansub groups. | pt_PT |
