The influence of the psychotherapist characteristics, both on the course and the results of the psychotherapeutic intervention, has been widely recognized, regardless of the therapeutic model. Assuming the interest in the study of the non technique therapeutic skills, needed for the clinical practice, a reflection is made on the constructs mindfulness and psychological mindedness, as relatively stable characteristics of the experience and self consciousness of the psychotherapist, which can be displayed as distinct therapeutic stances. Mindfulness can be described as a non-judgmental, willing observation, with increased awareness and attention, of the experience of the present moment (Brown & Ryan, 2003; Kabat-Zinn, 2003). Psychological mindedness consists in both the interest and capacity to think reflexively about the behavioral, cognitive and emotional meanings and motives of oneself and/or others (e.g. Farber, 1985; Hall, 1992). In this project, the profit of the therapist responsively displaying the minful e psychologically minded stances in the therapeutic space, in order to verify a better promotion of the change mechanisms on the patient, is focused and supported. A longitudinal study is sketched, based upon the Paradigmatic Complementarity integrative metamodel (Vasco, 2006). The understanding of the relation between the mindful and/or psychologically minded therapeutic stances and the increased experience and self consciousness of the patient is attempted. It's expected that therapists with high degrees of the two characteristics, responsively swinging between the two therapeutic stances, will verify the achievement, by the patient, of a greater structural ability, related to an increased experience and self consciousness, attained through the assimilation of the specific strategic objectives of phase 2, of the Paradigmatic Complementarity integrative metamodel (Vasco, 2006).
