Resumo(s)
The present study that we titled "Uninhabited Museum. A proposal for museological (re)programming for the Mário Botas Foundation Museum", is about the surrealist painter Mário Botas (1952-1983), and the House-Museum Foundation that he created months before his death, and seeks to address a gap by the guardianship of the painter's works, which has hitherto continued without a properly defined museum programming. It also aims to be a documentary reference on the painter and his foundation, since there are no
bibliographic and documentary bases that gather the information compiled here.
The conversion of the old painter's family home, in Nazaré, into House Museum, and the Foundation's legal name under study – Mário Botas House-Museum Foundation –, is the result of a wish of the painter-doctor expressed in his will. However, the current building does not correspond to that stated in the will, but to his father's longing to design and build a new space for the works bequeathed to the Foundation of which he was president (1984-1997). As such, we understand that the designation of this Foundation is only the tutelary entity of a reality of museological character in the embryonic stage, to which we
will call Museum and not House-Museum. The diagnosis of the current building, the survey and subsequent analysis of the works of Mário Botas, property of FCMMB but also in the possession of third parties, allowed us to develop a coherent and feasible museological (re)programming proposal, as a work
base for the requalification of what we call Mário Botas Museum, hoping that it could stimulate the relaunch of the Foundation's activity as a cultural and economic engine, in a regional (the West) diversified, and increasingly international, tourism hub
