Resumo(s)
The quality of life in cities is increasingly threatened by environmental problems like air pollution, disorganized growth, among other negative influences, and one of the causes of this threat is lack of green spaces. During the last decade, the world economy have proposed various methods and tools for environmental enhancement, in order to raise awareness among authorities and the population for the protection of the environment and increase the quality of life it provides.
This thesis aims to objectify the application of Contingent Valuation Method to the Urban Park of Quinta das Conchas and Lilases in the parish of Lumiar, in Lisbon. The methodology is based on the application of surveys to the population that enjoys this urban park, trying to estimate the willingness to pay (WTP) of the regulars.
200 surveys were conducted between April and May 2011. Through analysis and discussion of the results, we obtained an economic value of 564.293 € / year. This value allowed to understand how the attending population is willing to contribute to its maintenance and preservation, providing an excellent indicator of management to local authorities, policy makers and urban managers.
